Scent: The large yellow lady’s slipper is named after the pouch-shaped lower lip of its bloom. This very rare plant is protected, as it takes years to grow back once disturbed, and is difficult to cultivate. The rhizomes of lady’s slippers were valued medicine by First Nations, collected in fall or early spring, dried then ground into powder to be used for a range of ailments such as fever, headaches, insomnia, and anxiety.
